Travel advice
Business travellers

As a business traveller, you’re probably quite used to the routine of air travel. At CATSA, we know that many business travellers prefer to travel with carry-on baggage rather than checked luggage as it reduces the chances of it getting delayed and saves time!

Speed up screening and get to your departure gate faster, by following these few tips:

  • Have your boarding pass ready to present.
  • Tag your carry-on and checked baggage with both your work address and the contact information at your destination
  • GPS equipment, iPods, PDA’s, mobile phones, and smartphones (i.e. BlackBerry, iPhone) do not need to be screened separately. These can stay in your carry-on baggage and will not be harmed by the screening equipment.
  • Remove laptop computers, video cameras with cassettes, and film cameras from their carry-cases and place them in the bins provided.
  • Pack camera film in your carry-on baggage. The equipment used at the pre-board screening checkpoints will not damage film under 800 ISO/ASA.
  • Remove sport coats, suit jackets, and blazers and place them in the bins provided.
  • Take the opportunity to empty all contents of your shirt and pant pockets  and place these items in the bins before passing through the walkthrough metal detector.
  • If you are Travelling to the US, you will be required to remove your shoes and place them in the bins. This is NOT a requirement when Travelling solely within Canada.
  • Avoid wearing shoes with metal arches, buckles, steel-toes or shanks.
  • Avoid wearing belts with metal buckles.
  • Spare lithium batteries must be individually packaged to prevent short-circuiting and must be carried in carry-on baggage only. Each cell or battery must not exceed: 20 Watt-hours for cells, 100 Watt-hours for batteries.
  • Pop-up banner advertising and collapsible trade show booths are best transported as checked baggage. Please ensure these are labeled clearly with both your work address and the contact information where you’ll be staying (i.e. mobile phone number).
  • Place your transparent, closed and resealable plastic bag containing your liquids, aerosols and gels into a separate bin. If you are also travelling with exempted liquids, please remove them at this time and place them into the bin.

Consult our Business Traveller's profile page to see the aviation security regulations that may apply to you.

For information on pre-board screening procedures or air travel within the US, please consult the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) website, or your travel agent.
