Materials on this website have been produced and/or compiled by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) for the purpose of providing Canadians with direct access to information about the programs and services offered by the Government of Canada.

The material on this site is covered by: the Copyright Act; Canadian laws, policies, regulations; and, by international agreements. Such copyright serves to identify the information source and, in specific instances, to prohibit reproduction of materials without explicit written permission.

Third-party Materials

Some of the materials and graphical elements found on Government of Canada websites are subject to copyrights held by other organizations. This is particularly true of sites that are jointly operated by a Government of Canada institution and an external organization as part of a collaborative arrangement. In such cases, some restrictions on the reproduction of materials or graphical elements may apply and it may be necessary to seek permission from the rights holder prior to reproducing the material.

Privacy Statement

The Government of Canada and the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority are committed to respecting the personal privacy of individuals who visit our websites. This section summarizes the privacy policy and practices of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority websites.

  • The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority does not automatically gather any  personal information from you, such as your name, phone number, e-mail or street  address during your visit to its websites. This information is only obtained if you supply it  voluntarily, usually through contacting us via e-mail, web form, or registering in a secure  portion of the site.
  • All personal information you do provide is protected under the federal Privacy Act. This  means that, at the point of collection, you will be informed that your personal information is being collected, the purpose for which it is being collected and that you have a right of access to the information.
  • The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. This software receives and records the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer that has contacted our website, the date and time of the visit and the pages visited. We make no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting our site unless an attempt to damage the site has been detected.
  • The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority occasionally uses "cookies" to track how our visitors use this site or to determine sites previously visited. The cookies we use do not allow us to identify individuals. They are compiled into statistical information on traffic patterns and are used to assess site efficiency. If a Canadian Air Transport Security Authority site is using cookies that collect personal information, a notice will appear on the site advising of such use. You will be provided with an opportunity to refuse them.  Such refusal will not affect the site performance or restrict your ability to access  information from this site. (A cookie is a file that may be placed on your hard drive without your knowledge by a website to allow it to monitor your use of the site.)
  • Information on individual visitors is used by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority employees to respond to requests or to ensure the security of this system. We only share the information you give us with other government departments if your inquiry relates to that department. We do not use the information to create individual profiles, nor do we disclose this information to anyone outside of the federal government.

Questions or comments regarding this policy, or the administration of the Privacy Act in the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority may be directed to the Access to Information and Privacy Division at CATSA.

The Access to Information and Privacy Division at CATSA facilitates the Authority’s Respectful commitment with Canada's laws on access to information and the protection of personal information.

  • The Access to Information Act governs access to information contained in federal government records. This means that Canadian citizens, permanent residents, persons present in Canada, or corporations can, formally or informally, request records under the control of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority.
  • The Privacy Act governs the collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal information and gives all individuals in Canada access to information about themselves under the control of The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority.
  • The Access to Information and Privacy Division provides advice to anyone seeking information under our control;
  • It prepares an Annual Report to Parliament outlining how we operate, the volume of requests received, and how we have responded to those requests.
  • The division also provides assistance on how to file complaints should it be necessary to approach the Information Commissioner or Privacy Commissioner.
  • The Access to Information and Privacy Division strengthens access to information and privacy practices across the corporation by developing corporate policies, guidelines, training and awareness programs.

If you wish to submit a formal request to receive CATSA records, please send a letter stating that you are seeking records under the Access to Information Act, and provide as much detail as possible about the information you are seeking. Mail your letter to the address below, along with the required application fee of $5.00 in cash, or cheque or money order made payable to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority. Without the application fee, correspondence will not be treated as a request under the Act.

If you are seeking access to your own personal information under the Privacy Act, no fee is required; however, you should submit a letter containing sufficient detail to enable the Access to Information and Privacy Division to locate your records.
